ABOUT ME

Hi! I am

Ms. Anderson

So, you want to know a bit more about your librarian, huh?  Where should I begin?  It all started way back before there were computers or cell phones.  When I was growing up one of my favorite past times was reading. I loved going to the local library and checking out books (usually more than I could carry so I'd ask for help from my Mom).  And then I would race home to one of my favorite reading spots: sprawled out on my bed, up in the maple tree in the back yard, or snuggled in the corner of my closet. Reading was such a wonderful escape.  What were my favorites?  Old Mother West Wind, Nancy Drew, anything by Judy Blume, and later anything by Camelot, a publisher.  That's right, my tween self was already selecting books by publisher.  I was destined to be a librarian!

It wasn't until I was working as a teacher that one of my friends, a librarian actually, planted the idea of  working in a library and not just visiting one.  And then things in my life just sort of fell into place and being a librarian became a reality.   In 2004, I started working on my masters in librarianship at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois.  I loved the college so much that I actually got two degrees from there!   Did I mention that I also love being a student?  Anyway, 2004 was busy year for me because I also started a new job as the librarian at Carrie Busey Elementary School. It was so much fun and I was learning so much about my profession.  There was only one problem.  I missed middle school very much.  As luck would have it, in 2006 the librarian at Jefferson announced his retirement and I quickly applied.  To my delight, I got the job!

I have been the librarian at Jefferson since 2006.  During that time I completed my Certificate of Advanced Study (that second degree from GSLIS I mentioned above) and was awarded National Board Certification in Librarianship.  I love my job and often joke that it's the best job in education.  I look forward to keeping you up to date about the goings-on at Jefferson, which books I'm reading or excited to start, and how the library is working in collaboration with classroom teachers to ensure our students are getting the most out of their library experience.
