Can't get enough of short films after we watched them during library before break? Never fear! Below you'll find a list of the short films we watched together in class, but also ones that we did not get a chance to watch in class.
Class Shorts:
Watermelon: A Cautionary Tale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTxn2BuqyzU
Lost & Found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35i4zTky9pI
In A Heartbeat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2REkk9SCRn0
For the Birds: Disney+
More shorts:
Hair Love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNw8V_Fkw28
This short film won an Oscar for Best Animated Short! It's about an African-American dad learning how to do his daughter's hair for the first time. It was so popular it was turned into a picture book!
One Small Step: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWd4mzGqQYo
Ever since Luna saw a rocket launch into space on TV, she knew that's what she wanted to do when she grew up. Her father, Chu, tries to support her dreams while repairing shoes out of his garage. A heartwarming father-daughter story about following your dreams and all the bumps along the way.
Coin Operated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L4DQfVIcdg
A sweet film about a boy and a coin operated spaceship.
The Present: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XA0bB79oGc
The main character of this short film would rather spend his time playing video games than doing anything else. Until, that is, his mom gets him a present that keeps distracting him.
Disney+: A list of short films you can find on Disney+! There are a TON more, but these are the ones I've seen. Disney+ has a collection of both original shorts, but also of shorts made about characters from feature films. All descriptions are from Disney+.
Bao: A Chinese mom who's sad when her grown son leaves home gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life. But she finds that nothing stays cute and small forever.
The Blue Umbrella
Geri's Game: Geri plays a daylong game of chess against himself. Somehow, he begins losing to his livelier self, but just when the game's nearly over, Geri manages to turn the tables.
Lava: Inspired by the isolated beauty of the tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes, Lava is a musical love story that takes place over millions of years.
Lou: When a toy-stealing bully ruins recess for a playground full of kids, only one thing stands in his way - the Lost & Found box.
Piper: A hungry sandpiper hatchling ventures from her nest for the first time to dig for food by the shoreline. The problem is, the food is buried in the sand where scary waves roll up.
Purl: An earnest ball of yarn named Purl gets a job at a fast-paced, high energy, male centric start-up. Things start to unravel as she tries to fit in with this close knit group. Purl must ask herself how far she is willing to go to get the acceptance she yearns for and in the end is it worth it?
Burrow (NEW! Came out in December 2020!): A young rabbit embarks on a journey to dig the burrow of her dreams, despite not having a clue what she's doing. Rather than reveal to her neighbors her imperfections, she digs herself deeper and deeper into trouble. After hitting (bed)rock bottom, she learns that there is no shame in asking for help.
Happy watching! Ms. Clinton
