2021 may have been rough, but it was a very productive year for me as a reader. As I reflect on the titles I spent time with I feel satisfied that I read widely, challenged myself, and stayed motivated. If I had to share on criticism it would be that I didn't read enough non-fiction. Even with my mid-year goal! I'll do better in 2022.

Here are a few of the books that stole my heart:

This was the last book I read for 2021. And what a treat! The story is told in verse and the character is so memorable. Ellie is struggling with her weight and the weight of being bullied by friends at school and people in her family. The worst coming from her mom. I was delighted to see the title pull a Printz Honor this year. Must deserved!

So creepy! But what really sold this for me is that the story is set in Chicago. So the ghost hunting tours they go on feel extra familiar. Couldn't put this one down.

Moth was love at first sight. The cover is gorgeous and a perfect match for the writing. Moth is struggling to cope with the loss of her family. Time to break out the tissue for a story that will stay with you long after the book ends.

A book on abuse is hard to read and I imagine even harder to write. This story showcases Bradley's skill at character development and helping the reader come to terms with reality at the perfect pace.

This sold me on the Reese Witherspoon Book Club picks. I really loved Furia (the first of her books I tried) and this one captured my heart. It's about baking and love. A perfect combination by the beach or tucked in by a fire.

There you go. A few titles I loved, though admittedly heavy on female characters and realistic fiction. May next year be as productive!

Happy reading!
