Seriously. I. Love. Book. Awards.
I don't know if it's just because I already love lists or what. But I always look forward to reading titles that have been nominated and/or win awards. And the National Book Award is one of my favorites. The titles are always varied and typically I find them interesting. That doesn't mean I always like the story but I find it worth my time as a reader. The other thing that I have noticed is that the titles don't always appear on other award lists in January (which is interesting, right?).
Here are this year's titles that made the long list. The committee will reveal the short list (usually 5) and the winner later this year. This method gives people a chance to read through the titles the committee likes the best and try to predict which one will win. I just love that. I've already read one, Unspeakable, and ordered the other nine. I can't wait to start the rest. I think I'll start with Moth (Me) (The cover is so beautiful!) or The Legend of Auntie Po (cause I'm a sucker for comics!).

Happy reading! Be sure to tell me which one is your favorite.
