I just can't...

  • believe it's over.

  • say enough about it.

  • recommend it enough.

  • forget June Bug & Ziggy

  • wait until you read it!

First off, I have to say that I think the cover art is unfortunate. I do not think it will capture imaginations that way the story does. I trusted that it would be good because it was a National Book Award Finalist, but I will confess that I wouldn't have likely picked it up on my own just from looking at the cover.

Having said that. Oh. My. Gravy.

I knew from the first paragraph that this book was going to be something special.

"It was clear that summer was about to change as soon as Jenny Karlo's rusty

old Chevy came clattering down Trowbridge Road at a quarter past two, the

radio pounding heavy metal into the neighborhood, shattering the lazy

Thursday afternoon like a rock through a dusty window."

I was immediately transported to this sleepy little town. The author's language was so precise and the descriptions were so perfect that I couldn't wait to gobble up the story page by page. There were other chapters that started with sentences also captured my imagination and left me breathless.

"One in the morning folded into two in the morning, and two in the morning

dissolved into three."

"Morning came like a butterfly unfolding its wings."

The story of June Bug and Ziggy is a tale of heartbreak, friendship, loss, and love. One I will not soon forget but one that I will never get tired of recommending.

Happy Reading!

Ms. Anderson
