I love the anticipation of starting a new book. What will happen? Will it be good? Does the cover capture the essence of the story? So many questions flit through my subconscious. I especially enjoy beginning a story that I know will be good. How do I know? Maybe it's a "classic" (hey, books aren't popular for hundreds of years for no reason--trust me) or someone recommended it. Either way, I always seem to have a collection of titles that I know I should read, that I want to read, but I just haven't gotten to yet. This week I started two on this list. Yay, me!
Toning the Sweep by Angela Johnson is about three generations of women and their issues of friendship, love, and grief. I've been meaning to read it for about 20 years, so it's loooong overdue. It's super short (~100 pages) and sweet (so far).
Girl Coming in for a Landing by April Halprin Wayland is one that I've been eyeing but never started. I like the cover (just the sky but something about it is appealing) and it's a book in verse (one of my guiltless pleasures). It is keeping me in my reading happy place and far from the dreaded reading rut.
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. I'll be honest. I started this audiobook about 4 weeks ago and didn't get into it. It happens. But I restarted it a couple of days ago and now I love it! Sometimes it's about timing. The story has many elements that I love: mystery, historical tie-in, and female sleuth. I can't wait to find out how they will craft this Jack the Ripper story. It reminds me of how much I enjoyed The Name of the Star (another JtR story).
Happy reading!
