Surprise!
JK...no real surprise here on my blog today. I still love my job. I still dig reading. And, of course, I still hope to help you discover your next favorite book.
Here's what's holding my attention this week:

I just finished The Legend of Auntie Po and I'm both delighted and confused. The story itself is cute and a fresh look at the Chinese Tall Tale, Auntie Po (think Paul Bunyon). I'm a bit befuddled that it's on the long list for this year's National Book Award. I mean, it was fun and entertaining, but I didn't really have a strong emotional reaction. So, maybe it's just because it's an original, well-told tale with strong, supporting art?

Moth is my next National Book Award nominee. I am so in love with the cover art that I can only hope the contents are as brilliant. The story is about a young girl, Moth, who loses her whole family in a car accident and is struggling to find her way through life. This book is in verse (which I also love) and so far has me captivated. I started yesterday and am nearly half way through so I hope that's a good sign. Stay tuned!

I just started the audio version of Book 2 in The Raven Cycle. I'll be honest, I had forgotten how much I loved Book 1! Blue Sargent is our main character and she's the only non-magical person in her family with a fortune that includes killing the boy she loves with a kiss. How's that for a stressful way to start a relationship!? Anyway, she embarks on a quest with 4 other boys (her Raven Boys) to find a secret path between the living and the dead. I am so loving this journey. Here's to starting--and finishing--more series in my future!
I hope you're finding some great new reads this week!
