I love spring. The days are getting longer, the weather is warming, and the flowers are beginning to carpet the ground in their flourish of color. Just this week the tiny daffodils I planted last year are unfurling. They are so adorable. So really, what's not to like about spring?
The other thing I love about this time of year is that I always seem to get a renewed energy around what I'm reading. Case in point...I am currently reading four books and that doesn't count an audio book (Because I just finished The Weight of Blood yesterday. Sooo good btw!). I'm so excited!

Ms. Siwecki came into the library yesterday raving about this book so I felt like I wanted to start it immediately. It was already on my list because it's a John Steptoe Award winner (for first time authors), but I as stoked that she was so excited about the story. Peer pressure is effective on me!
I got to start the novel yesterday while students did their IAR testing and I'm already 1/4 of the way through. In just that time the author has created characters I care about and made me want to know what has happened in the past. It's the best kind of mystery.

Hummingbird was a title I started on a whim when I was shelving new books for display. I fell in love with the author's word choice by paragraph three and knew it was going to bypass a shelf and land directly in my bag. Olive is one of those characters that will travel with me forever. She is brave and full of spunk. I cannot stop rooting for her and want her to find her first BFF, ASAP. The writing really reminds me of Walk Two Moons, which (as you may remember) is one of my all-time favs.

I like having a book everywhere I go in the house so this is my upstairs graphic novel. The art is quirky and the story is fresh. The main character, Safia, is sent off to live with a distant relative after she loses her family in a horrid fire. But the catch seems to be that her aunt is a monster but Safia can't tell because she's blind. This is a fun one and perfect for someone that loves a bit of adventure in their comic.

I am a sucker for books in verse. I like that they make me feel like I read fast (which I don't). And this one is in a font that looks like a journal. What!? I couldn't start fast enough!
This is the story of Iveliz and how she manages her mental health after the death of her father. The story is told mostly in English but with a solid amount of Spanish that I enjoyed using Google to translate when my Spanish skills fell short (which was often).
Now the only problem I have is which book to pick up when I get home.
Happy Friday everyone!
